~ Welcome to Chosun Chic ~
You’ll find expressions and musings about Korean culture, icons, philosophy, lifestyle, customs, language, and traditions. Here, you will find a unique blend of articles, insights, and stories that delve into the rich tapestry of Korean culture through my lens as an American of Korean descent, many times looking from the outside and as an adult looking more and more from within. These expressions emerged from a desire to honor my roots, my parents and their stories, in Chosun style.
1. Top left - Oh Se Kon (mother) and Kim Chung Jin (father) shortly after their wedding in 1969. 2. Center - One of my father's concerts as tenor vocalist in Korea and overseas. 3. Bottom left - My father and his mentor (right), Ahn Ik-Tae, who composed Korea's national anthem or "aeguka". 4. Bottom right - My father conducting the national choir and performing "aeguka" for the first time shortly after Korea's Liberation in August 15, 1945. 5. Top right - My aunt (father's sister), Kim Jung Min, and father performing at the 17th L.A. Korean Orchestra concert commemorating Korea's Liberation Day.
